RESEARCHERS AT DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING ROADTEST UNEP/SETAC LIFE CYCLE INITIATIVE’S “GUIDANCE ON ORGANIZATIONAL LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (O-LCA)” AT THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
UPH has been selected to participate in the Road testing of the Guidance on Organizational Life Cycle Assessment. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Organization is the flagship project of UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative, a joined organization of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). The main goal of the project is to demonstrate that the benefits and the potential of the life cycle approach is also relevant, meaningful and already possible to be used on organizations, and not only limited to the application on products.
This road testing was conducted by a team of researchers and students in the Department of Industrial Engineering lead by Jessica Hanafi. At UPH, this road testing aims to raise environmental awareness around the university and incorporate environmental indicators into the overall university performance. This organizational LCA (O-LCA) study is implemented as a pilot project in the Faculty of Science and Technology.By conducting a pilot project on O-LCA, the faculty can show that the effort in providing quality education and environment is worth being disclosed. The results will be useful for the faculty and university leaders to take strategic decisions in the future and can be used as marketing tool promoting UPH as a sustainable university.
Sample report of the roadtesting project is available here for download. For a full report of the project, please contact Jessica Hanafi.
